Recycling is the best way to get rid of things you no longer need. Many people assume that this only applies to aluminum cans, glass bottles and newspapers but you can recycle and reuse just about everything in your home. Charitable organizations accept donations of clothing, furniture, books and household goods in usable condition.

Thrift stores: Donations of clothing, books, used furniture, household goods and children’s toys. Dishes, glasses, cooking utensils, cookware and coffee pots are accepted at many stores and attended drop boxes.

Used book stores: Books, magazines and newspapers as well as some board games and collectors edition sets are accepted at many used booksellers for cash or store credit.Get more information here. http://thistimethisspace.com/2012/05/16/spending-less-looking-good/

Appliances: Washers, dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators, bicycles, tires, sporting goods, playground equipment, baby cribs as well as strollers and car seats are accepted at many thrift stores and consignment shops.

Eyeglasses, hearing aids and medical equipment: Many charities now accept these and refurbish them for people in need. One organization repairs eyeglasses and gives them low-income or elderly persons without insurance.

Wheel chairs, hospital beds and walkers/canes can often be donated as well. Many non-profit organizations help the needy through community outreach programs so you may want to call around and ask where to take them for donation.
